Manchester United cannot afford to sign Jadon Sancho without first showing players the door, with Borussia Dortmund demanding £100million for the England star this summer

Manchester United will have to sell players if they want to fund a move for Jadon Sancho this summer – which is largely down to Bruno fernandes’ arrival in January.

The Red Devils are desperate to bring Sancho to Old Trafford in the summer transfer window, yet Borussia Dortmund have slapped a £100million price tag on their star man.

In the current climate, where club finances are depleted amid the coronavirus crisis, United are struggling to meet Dortmund’s valuation and will therefore have to show players the door to raise funds.

However, Fernandes’ £67million switch from Sporting Lisbon also explains why they can’t afford to sign Sancho right now.

The Portugal midfielder joined United for an initial £47million in January, with an estimated £20million to come in add-ons.

After registering eight goals and seven assists in 14 Premier League outings, he has been worth every penny.

But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed back in February that his arrival has eaten into the club’s summer transfer budget.

“Of course it is,” Solskjaer said when asked if that was the case.

Of course signings and expenditure will affect your budget.”

Sancho scored 20 goals for Dortmund in the 2019/20 campaign, while also recording as many assists.

United legend Paul Scholes urged his former side to go out and buy the England youngster after their 2-1 Europa League defeat against Sevilla on Sunday night

Scholes said on BT Sport: “We’re talking about quality, we’re talking about spending money on centre-forwards and wide players, you talk about hundreds of millions these days to get these players but these are the players that win you trophies. These are the ones that win you medals.

“We know all this Sancho thing is going on but they need to start spending the money.

If they want to win trophies, they’ve got to start spending the money.

“Okay, they created chances tonight, but if you think if Sancho’s in that team tonight, I think United are scoring.”
