Borussia Dortmund expect ‘Ed Woodward surprise’ in Man Utd transfer for Jadon Sancho

Manchester United transfer news is not going away and nor are the Jadon Sancho rumours with the two clubs still a way apart in terms of agreeing a fee

Borussia Dortmund have not ruled out Manchester United coughing up the £110m they want for Jadon Sancho, according to reports.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made the Dortmund winger his priority target this summer but despite Sancho agreeing personal terms with United the two clubs remain apart in their valuations.

Dortmund want £110m for the 20-year-old but executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is reluctant to pay over £80m given the financial impact the coronavirus pandemic has had on the club.

However, German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung, claim Dortmund believe they can get Woodward to give in to their demands and he could ‘surprise’ them by paying the full amount.

United will need to act quickly though with Dortmund previously setting them a deadline of August 10 to conclude a deal.

Michael Zorc, Dortmund’s sports director admitted on Monday he is now expecting Sancho to stay

“I assume that Jadon will go to the training camp on Monday and play with us for the coming season,” he said.

“I don’t expect any difficulties. Jadon has accepted that, he’s a very pleasant, fair guy.”

Sancho is so keen to join United he’s already reportedly agreed his shirt number – the No.7 jersey.

The likes of Cristiano Roanldo and David Beckham have worn the No.7 shirt with great success but others, such as Memphis Depay and Angel Di Maria, did not have the .same impact.

And former Red Devil Gordon Hill has warned fans not to expect too much from Sancho too soon if he completes the switch to Old Trafford.

“Jadon will come with a price tag, a level of expectation for him to live up to,” he said.

“In the past we have had Angel Di Maria and Memphis Depay to name just two who have come in and were going to be the creative saviour for United on the wing.

“Time and time again we’ve seen players come in for big money and then not perform. It has generally come at some significant cost for that player to be moved on.

“I hope that won’t happen with Jadon but you will understand my apprehension. That’s not based on his talent, but the expectation that is already going to be put on his shoulders.

“He is clearly the player Ole wants, though. As as I said, he is being careful with his transfer policy – a big reason for us to feel confident.”
