Solskjaer made five changes as Eric Bailly and Brandon Williams came into the back-line, while Nemanja Matic, Fred and Daniel James were also in the starting line-up.
Anthony Martial, Paul Pogba and Mason Greenwood were among the substitutes.
Chelsea brought in Willy Caballero, Reece James and Mason Mount with both sides switching to three centre-halves.
