Chelsea boss Frank Lampard told to cancel contract offer due to three players

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard shouldn't offer Willian a new contract, despite the prospect of losing the star on a free, because he needs to take stock of his options and see what he has at his disposal for next season. That's the opinion of ESPN pundit Gab Marcotti, who feels that Lampard needs to see what Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi can add to the team next season.

Chelsea have already been busy in the transfer market, specifically regarding attackers.

Lampard moved quickly to sign Hakim Ziyech earlier this year, and then triggered Timo Werner's £53million release clause to sign the RB Leipzig ace.

The Blues are keen to continue their spending spree, with a move for Kai Havertz still rumoured.

But they still have issues to sort out within the club, as Willian will be out of contract this summer.

The Brazilian winger, 31, has been tipped to move across London to Tottenham, while Manchester United were previously linked.

However, Marcotti believes Chelsea need to let him leave, because they need to assess their other options on the wings.

He explained on ESPN FC that Lampard should look at Pulisic and Hudson-Odoi in particular, as well as new signing Ziyech, and figure out how to fit them in the first-team picture.

"I wouldn't [give Willian a new contract], no," Marcotti said
