Sunday Dare, the Minister Of Youth And Sport Development, has ordered the payment of funds into the accounts of athletes in Nigeria buffer the consequences and effect of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
According to the statement made from the Media Office of the Minister, stated that, the payment made, were from N10M donated by Kunle Soname, the Chairman of Remo Stars And N1M from an unspecified Nigerian.
The statement made, "The total of N50,000 has been paid directly into the account of the athletes from the Central Bank Of Nigeria, through the account of the Ministry of Youth And Sport Development.
"The World Athletics Governing body two days ago also took a cue from the Nigerian example by floating a $500m appeal trust fund to assist athletes in the wake of the suspension of major sporting events around the world".
